Good Better Best. What’s the difference
Ever wonder what the real differences are when you pay more for a progressive lens?
The prices are typically set by the lens manufacturer and each optical will mark it up relative to what they must pay. But why are some manufacturers charging us such significantly different prices. This is a mixture of brand reputation, lab quality and features of the lenses themselves.
At Second Specs we only source our lenses from the world’s most reputable labs. This ensures consistent quality controls and lower chances of customer dissatisfaction. We are constantly testing new lens products as the leader in lens technology is an ongoing competition in the industry. Our versatility gives you access to the best.
Examples of technologies for progressive lens designs include providing the optimal area for reading computer and distance with minimal peripheral distortion. The premium lenses account for a patients prescription, frame size and shape and allow the optician the most options for customization based on your vision demands. Some lenses can take more than thirty minutes for the computer software to generate the optimal design. From there a premium lens is typically ground on both the front and back sides to provide the widest possible viewing area. The lens material such as a higher index provides a thinner lighter lens but can take significantly longer to form. But be aware that higher index lenses are not always clearer. Your optician can advise on the best balance which can save you money and provide optimal clarity.
Another important component of a high quality lens is the coating. Anti-reflective coatings make the glasses look better by allowing a clearer view of your eyes to others but more importantly help you see better by reducing glare from light reflecting back into your eyes from the sides and behind you. A better quality coating will also make the lens tougher, easier to clean and less likely to get dirty in the first place.
Everyone has a different tolerance on their vision needs. Some patients are sensitive to even a little bit of blurriness, lens distortion or lens misalignment while others are quite happy wearing a more basic lens design. At Second Specs we want you to have the best vision possible without ever feeling you over paid. We provide competitive lens options to meet your vision needs and budget.
